Beirut
Beirut was originally the sole concern of New Mexico native, Zachary Condon. After travelling to Europe in his teens, Zachary became enthralled in Balkan folk music. Beirut’s eclectic sound merged European indie with Eastern and American world music. On the strength of some home recordings, Beirut signed to Ba Da Bing! Records with 2006’s Gulag Orkestar getting its official release in 2006. An interest in French cinematography and culture, shone through on Beirut’s second album The Flying Club Cup. Released in October 2007, Beirut’s sophomore album showcased Zachary’s love of piano-driven pop. Beirut’s unique sound is an explosion of horns, keys and accordions, which suck you in to a triumphant and melodic beat. It’s an audible jolly fusion of worldly wisdom and musical variety that makes it hard to believe that Zachary is still only 25.
