Eco Tips
All music festivals take a large toll on the environment, in light of this POD have partnered with Cultivate, Body and Soul and BYE to create a comprehensive long term Sustainability Strategy for the festival. Here are some tips to get you started.
Driving
Using less fuel, creating less CO2
-Please don’t drive – use public transport to get to the festival
-If you have to drive, car pool – see this Carpool Service.
-Bring your bike on the train and cycle. The nearest station is Portlaoise train station. Secure bike parking is available at the picnic this year
-If driving make sure your engine is well-tuned and tyres are pumped to correct pressure
-If driving save petrol by avoiding accelerating and braking abruptly where possible
-Reduce petrol consumption when idling by turning off the car engine when stuck in traffic for a minute or more.
-Save petrol by cruising at optimal efficiency speed of 55 to 60 mph
-If you are coming from the UK take the train and ferry instead of flying. See details at www.loco2travel.com

Picnicking
-Don’t throw cigarette butts on the ground, they contain plastics and can take years to biodegrade. They can also have a toxic effect on the environment. Last year roughly 450,000 cigarettes were sold at the picnic – imagine how long it would take to pick all those butts up!
-Use biodegradable and organic wet wipes
-Use a refillable water bottle – stay hydrated
-Dudes...pee in the designated urinals and toilets, the land can’t take such phosphate concentrations and it stinks

-Use the waste bags supplied for gathering your trash, and on a daily basis make the trip to the nearest on site Recycling Station
-Only use phosphate free shampoo, soap, etc. to protect the land
-Leave no trace – leave your camp-site cleaner than you found it
-Help pick up other campers’ litter – every little bit helps!
-Pack up your tent. Don’t leave camping stuff behind – take it home

Global Green
-Come to the Global Green the new area at the Electric Picnic. Slow down and take in some good organic food, subtle beats, and reflect on a better world. This year a number of leading edge organisations, artists, designers, and thinkers come together at the Global Green to creatively explore a more just and sustainable world.
